会談前にトランプ大統領は、シリアがレバノンでヒズブッラーに対して介入することを支持するかとの質問に対し、アフマド・シャルア暫定大統領を称賛したうえで、「彼はヒズブッラーに対して何らかの行動を取りたいと考えている。彼は長年ヒズブッラーと戦ってきた。非常に効果的だと思う」と述べた。
